Community Partnerships

Partnerships are essential to the success of an afterschool program. Collaboration allows for a more robust program and can often aid in strengthening family engagement.
The Value of Community
A culture of partnerships promotes richer opportunities for students to learn and develop in the afterschool programs.

Many benefits are realized when community comes together to support afterschool programming for youth.
-
Shared resources and goals for student success
-
Richers opportunities for youth
-
Increased family engagement
-
Variety of funding sources
Student experiences are enhanced: to help provide the continuity that benefits students, schools and OST providers can partner by using shared language, working together to decide how they will pursue this work and what they hope to achieve, and reinforcing lessons and messages in all student settings. Structures such as project-based learning and peace rooms can be used in both settings to ensure that students have a consistent experience and understand expectations as they move from one to the other.
Snacks and Meals
Did you know?
The Bureau of Nutrition and Health Services administers several programs that provide healthy food to children.
Programs can provide breakfast, snack and often full meals to their youth - even throughout the summer! Check out the link below for information on all of Iowa's food and nutrition programs.
