Trainings & Events

To achieve its goal of expanding access to high-quality afterschool programs, the Iowa Afterschool Alliance provides professional development and training to help improve and maintain the quality of programming available to children and families.

Impact After School Conference

The Impact After School Conference is a two-day training opportunity for afterschool professionals and community partners. Occurring every spring, the conference features dynamic workshops and keynote sessions on a variety of relevant topics such as social emotional learning, STEM, literacy, behavior management, family engagement, college and career readiness, diversity and inclusion, agriculture, team-building, health and wellness, and more. The conference also provides the chance attendees to network and share best practices that they have learned through their own work.

The 2020 Impact Afterschool Conference was held virtually September 30-October 2 due to the COVID-19 pandemic with over 150 in attendance. Presenters utilized an online platform provided with funding and logistical support by the Mott Foundation, the national supporter of out-of-school time networks such as the Iowa Afterschool Alliance. With continued support from the Iowa Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center program, attendees were able to access multiple learning opportunities.

“Great ideas and resources that can be incorporated into my before & afterschool program-Michelle Cummings was awesome! Mizzen app, Youth AstroNet Program is so cool!”
