Iowa’s
Blueprint for Afterschool
Our Blueprint will include recommendations on quality programming,
policy, funding, availability, and other key issues to better support
afterschool in Iowa. Beginning with the June
2006 Governor’s Summit on Afterschool, the IAA will build
the Blueprint based on grassroots and grasstops input. The IAA will
host four regional meetings to solicit further ideas and feedback
from diverse stakeholders across the state. We will have the opportunity
to further enrich the Blueprint by also gathering input from the
Iowa Collaboration for Youth Development
and the Iowa’s Promise
Partnership Council.

Join parents, teachers, law enforcement, officers, and many others
who care about kids to discuss what you’d like to see Iowa
do for youth and afterschool. We’re creating Iowa’s
Blueprint for Afterschool, and your vision is a crucial part of
the process. Don’t miss this opportunity to share the needs
of kids in western Iowa with state and community leaders.
In January 2008, the final Blueprint for Afterschool will be presented
officially and be disseminated to key audiences so that support
can be solicited from both policymakers and grassroots advocates.
It will include recommendations for state and local implementation,
a public education campaign, a state legislative strategy, and opportunities
for engaging and educating Presidential caucus candidates on the
issue. The IAA will provide advocacy training to its membership
and other groups identified in the Blueprint to push for implementation
of recommendations.
