Public resources for afterschool programs are
extremely limited in Iowa and are likely to be even less in the
future given the ongoing state budget crisis and the change in
the federal 21st Century Community Learning Center program to a
state, formula allocation, funding stream. Moreover, the resources
that are available, while helpful and productive, are not sufficient
to meet demand.
Advocating for afterschool programs is essential
at the local, state, and national level. If you are interested in
learning more about afterschool advocacy tools, or would like to
be a part of the IAA’s advocacy efforts, please contact Brooke Findley.
