This is a new service of the Iowa Afterschool Alliance that is designed to share out afterschool opportunties for children and youth in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grades in your community. This directory uses self-reported information. The Iowa Afterschool Alliance does not vet programs and encourages all users to seek additional information on their own regarding program quality. Community Connections Allamakee School District The Community Connections Vision is "A caring community committed to enhancing the lives of our families, providing skills for making positive, healthy choices, and promoting lifelong learning for all." Rogers University Mid-Iowa Community Action Rogers University (RU), Mid- Iowa Community Action's 21st Century Community Learning Center program, was created by MICA, in partnership with the Marshalltown Community School District, to increase summer learning (or decrease summer learning loss). 21st CCLC afterschool program Mahaska County YMCA The Mahaska County YMCA and the Oskaloosa Community School District have developed an innovative new after school program with the support of 21st Century grant funding through the Department of Education and funding from United Way of Mahaska County. The program has district teaching staff and YMCA staff collaboratively providing an exciting program offering many enrichment opportunities for community youth. Altoona Campus Kids Klub Altoona Campus Kids Klub The Altoona Campus Kids Klub program is beginning the 25th year of service to the Southeast Polk School district and surrounding communities. Our program is licensed by the Department of Human Services. Kids Klub is an affordable, quality, state licensed out-of-school time program serving Kindergarten through fifth grade students in the Southeast Polk elementary buildings (Altoona, Centennial, Clay, Delaware, Four Mile, Mitchellville, Runnells & Willowbrook). Kids Klub is social and recreational in nature, while providing enrichment opportunities for students through both staff directed and spontaneous hands on/minds on learning. Well trained staff create detailed lesson plans around a central theme each week. On site staff provide a safe and nurturing environment which foster student�s ability to learn life lessons such as respect acceptance, courtesy, teamwork, positive thinking, and good sportsmanship. Funding received from United Way is utilized to provide sliding fee based scholarships to assist families with payment of Kids Klub weekly program fees. All program participants are eligible to apply for assistance. Each application is considered based on family size, documented family income and any extenuating circumstances. United Way funds help Kids Klub families who fall in the income gap, between non-qualification for state child care assistance and meeting family care needs. Kids Klub prides itself on following best practices in school age care. We do this by providing a lower adult to child ration of 1 to 10 or fewer (state regulations require 1 adult to 15 students) allowing for more personalized attention for our students. Kids Klub is using lesson planning tools which emphasize freedom of choice while also providing opportunities for literacy and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities. We now include daily group read alouds and literacy based activities that help reinforce Iowa Common Core standards and grade level academic skills. Rescue Rangers Animal Rescue League of Iowa The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is introducing an exciting new program for Des Moines Area Middle Schoolers! For many years, we have been asked if there are volunteer opportunities for children. Currently, children ages 10-15 are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian during their training, as well as while they are volunteering. Rescue Rangers is a unique program that combines education and volunteering for grades 6th through 8th. Rangers will meet twice a month; Thursdays from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm for hands on training and volunteering without a parent. A Rescue Ranger session will meet 7 times and costs $75 to cover staffing and supplies. Al Exito Al Exito Al Exito is the only statewide organization whose sole mission is the empowerment of Iowa Latinos through education and college attainment and success for Latino families. Al Exito serves middle schools weekly/ monthly asset based, culturally-relevant programs, facilitated by Spanish speaking teachers in a safe environment.
