Mission

The Iowa Afterschool Alliance champions quality before and afterschool opportunities through policy development and resource coordination.

Goals

GOAL 1: Foster statewide, regional, and local partnerships (particularly school-community partnerships) at all levels.

GOAL 2: Secure resources needed to sustain new and existing afterschool programs.

GOAL 3: Ensure programs are of high quality.

Functions

1. Maintain a forum for regular communication and sharing of ideas and resources among multiple systems and interests;
2. Disseminate information on policies and practices related to afterschool programs;
3. Work to increase public awareness of the value and importance of the constructive use of out-of-school time and support for afterschool programs;
4. Develop recommendations and support public policies that will increase the availability of high quality school-based and school-linked afterschool programs;
5. Coordinate and extend availability of training and technical resources to assure quality of afterschool programs and increase linkages between schools and community programs; and
6. Encourage and support regional and community partnerships that result in improved quality and increased capacity of afterschool programs.
